Witness the Fitness

I used to practice TaeKwonDo and was passionate about this martial art. I would think nothing of going to a 2 hour training session, then walking down the road to a 2 hour karate session straight after. I also worked as a gym instructor in the biggest gym in Chicago - trust me, that’s a boring job. I much preferred to be doing rather than telling other people what to do. Training gave me such a great buzz and I felt so great afterwards, so I would go two or three times a week. I also went running 3 times a week in the evenings, and to the gym 3 times a week, before I hit the office. All this training made me very fit and lean, but still I tried to push the boundaries and become fitter, to help me climb the grades towards my black belt. I also competed in inter-varsity competitions, in my last one I placed third. Then my back started giving in. I would come home from training and sit down with a cup of tea. When I stood up ten minutes later, my leg would give way and I would be unable to put any weight on it. The pain was excruciating. I found that I could ‘walk it off’. I went to a chiropractor who diagnosed scoliosis and sciatica - my spine was curved and the discs were wearing away. The last straw came when I had five fractures in my feet - all at the same time - from the TaeKwonDo training. I felt it was all too much pain to cope with, and my back wasn’t getting any better, so I gave it up.

Ten years later I still miss my TaeKwonDo so much. My back is pain free now and I’ve started gym work to strengthen my core. I’m using a fitness ball and it’s a fabulous training aid. Last year I lost about 36 pounds of fat so I’m almost as small as I used to be - I’m just one dress size away! Hopefully, getting back into TaeKwonDo, and regular gym training to back it up, will be something I can achieve this year. I really miss my sexy fit body! This video brings back memories of training and the fun I had. Enjoy.
